High 5 !

25-05-20 5 Axis will help you to go further

 Axis machining is used since long ago;

Nevertheless today all components and technology have developed to give a better answer as an whole;

you may have observed all developments in several variables such has:

RAW materials - steel with machinable properties that enhance the ap (eg) for 5 axis usage;

CAD systems - better surfaces and trimming and design methods (by designers) - for some geometries there could be some improved ISO standards;

CAM systems - improved toolpaths and better algorithms, knowledge, virtual machining

Cutting tools - more vibration absorbing materials (hence better surface quality); more cutter / tapper

Flush fine - heat removal with air water or oil (or emulsions) in any machining circumstances; cutters wear will reflect more in 5 axis;

Data transmission - with more data rate in volume and translation complexity e.g. - 400 Gigabit Ethernet (400GBASE-X)... but of course this is inside a bubble... as max nowadays in machinists  world1 Gb/s

Anyway by using the five-axis technology versus conventional three-axis machining, fewer setups are required to create a part with complex geometry. Five-axis machining eliminates the need and the cost of creating the fixtures because the part can be held once and rotated so that the geometry is created. Five-axis machining also enables the cutting tool to remain tangential to the cutting surface. Lower cycle times and costs are achieved because more material can be removed with each pass of the tool. Better surface finishes result by using the five-axis capabilities on contoured geometry.
