From 1 January 2022, France will take the Presidency of the European Council until 30 June 2022.

In the automotive sector, there will be many cases. Among the hot topics are the future European exemption regulation,

the debates on the Euro 7 standard for approval of vehicles, but also and of course zero emissions for all new vehicles sold from 2035,

which actually comes back at the end of the sale of the thermal vehicles.


However, on the latter subject, flaws are beginning to emerge between the various Member States of the European Union.

A new European divide could emerge between countries with an automobile industry and others.

The Czech Republic and Italy have already begun to make their voices heard, against this deadline.

Obviously, they are not the only ones concerned about this fatal outcome and some even ask for some adjustments, or even relaxation on CO2 emissions.

Several delegations indicated that they considered their new objectives to be very difficult to achieve.

 

At the end:  It was requested to examine the impact of the proposal on the used car market in certain Member States.

The faster adoption of zero- and low-emission cars in high-income Member States could lead to an increase in exports of older and more polluting cars in low-income Member States.

Some delegations also wish to end the use of the so-called mass parameter to determine CO2 emission limit targets.
